(Augusta) Consumers for Affordable
Health Care (CAHC), Maine's largest consumer health
organization, is pleased to announce that Greg White has
joined its staff as Public Relations Coordinator.
Most recently, Mr. White was
consulting for CAHC and the Collingwood Group, a
financial services firm located in Washington,
DC. He was previously Political
Director for Maine Change That Works, a non-profit
grassroots advocacy group that worked extensively for
the implementation of comprehensive health care reform
and other issues affecting working families on the
federal level. Greg also worked in a
number of capacities for Senator Olympia Snowe in her
Washington, D.C. office for close to six years,
ultimately serving as her Legislative Assistant on
housing/mortgage banking, community development, federal
employee/labor union, postal/government reform, and
Native American issues. During his
time on Capitol Hill, Greg was elected by his peers to
serve on the Executive Board of Directors of the
Congressional Legislative Staffers' Association
(CLSA) in 2007 and 2008. CLSA the
largest association for Congressional Staff. In
2008, he was chosen as the CLSA
Secretary.
"It's an honor and privilege to
join CAHC's staff. These next few
years are vital for implementing the Affordable Care Act
in Maine, and it is essential that we craft our message
in a way that consumers can understand how the law
benefits them," said White. "I think
the truth gets lost in the politics of an issue or in a
ten second sound-bite and then that is what is perceived
as fact. It is crucial that we
promote the facts, while dispelling the fictions."
White has extensive knowledge of
health care issues, having served as the health care
Legislative Correspondent and Mail Director with Senator
Snowe and during his time advocating for the Affordable
Care Act with Maine Change That Works.
Greg was also
the Policy Analyst with the National Low Income Housing
Coalition, where he staffed the Katrina Housing Group,
the National Housing Trust Fund Campaign, and the
Housing Plus Services Policy Committee.
He was also an intern for Senator Susan Collins
in her Washington, DC office. Greg, a
2002 graduate from the University of Southern Maine with
a BA in Political Science, resides in his hometown of
Portland.
"Greg's
understanding of the intricacies of the legislative
process, both on the federal and state levels, will be a
tremendous asset for CAHC. He's also
proven that he can garner positive results working
on complex issues with legislators, regardless of their
party identification." said CAHC Executive Director, Joe
Ditré. "Greg will also play a
critical role in helping to identify new partners as we
work to broaden support for expanding access for Mainers
to affordable health care. We are very pleased to have
Greg join our staff. He is a great asset."
