Save Health Care and Jobs by
Attending a Rally or Sending a Letter THIS
WEEK!
Let Senators Snowe and Collins
hear from you!
|
| Dear
Valerie,
The Senate is expected to vote soon
on a jobs bill that would extend critical funding
aid for state Medicaid programs, unemployment
benefits, and COBRA subsidies.
There will be a rally TOMORROW in
Portland, followed by visits to both Senate
offices. If you are unable to attend the
rally, then please submit a letter to the editor
(LTE) to your local paper in support of
funding. | |
RALLY
IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND
WEDNESDAY,
JUNE 30
Who: Members
of the Maine Can Do Better Campaign
When:
12:00pm June 30th, 2010 (people will be
there beginning at 11:30
am) Where: Lobsterman's
Park, Downtown Portland, ME (close
proximity to offices of Sen. Snowe and Sen.
Collins; in front of Temple Street Parking
Garage) Why: The
Jobs Bill aims to extend enhanced federal
funding for state Medicaid programs for six
months, along with unemployment benefits and
COBRA subsidies for health
insurance. What to
bring: Following the
rally, people are encouraged to drop off
hand-written letters or postcards with their
Senators. The offices for both Senators
are across the street from the rally. If you are
unable to bring a hand-written letter to the
rally, there will be post card-sized notes with
space for you to include a personal message made
available to you. |
Need some talking points to
draft a letter to our Senators or to your
paper?
Talking
Points for either a hand-written letter to
Senators Snowe and Collins, OR for a LTE to your
local paper:
- Maine is one of thirty states that
counted on this funding and stands to lose $85
million.
- Without this extension, Maine will
again be forced to take emergency measures to
further cut back essential public services,
meaning working families will continue to
struggle.
- Failure to extend enhanced federal
Medicaid assistance will create a gaping hole in
Maine's budget, after being slashed by $300
million earlier this year, putting vital health
care services and jobs in jeopardy.
- The votes of both Maine's Senators
are essential to getting to 60. Ask
Senators Snowe and Collins to stand up for Maine
families and jobs and support the bill instead
of stalling the process.
- While we thank you for your
previous support of extending FMAP, you have now
voted against extension three times this month.
Maine's health care industry depends on this
vote!
