Medicare Savings
Programs
If
you receive Medicare and you do not qualify
for full-coverage MaineCare, these programs
may help with some of your
health
care costs.
Last updated in April 2008.
Enrolling
in a Medicare Savings Program could qualify
you and/or your spouse for extra help with
Medicare Part D costs.
The
Quimby Program
If
you meet the income guidelines below, you
may be eligible for Quimby to pay ALL of your
Medicare premiums, co-insurances, and deductibles.
When you sign up for the Quimby Program, you
also get a Maine Rx/DEL card. Quimby members
who show the pharmacist their Maine Rx/DEL
card will pay $0 for generics and $1.55 for
brand name drugs on their Medicare Prescription

And,
don't forget about MaineCare
The
MaineCare program is the most comprehensive
program available to help people on Medicare.
MaineCare will pay all of your Medicare deductibles,
co-insurances and your Medicare Part B premium.
In addition, MaineCare will pay for some important
health care services not fully covered by
Medicare, and will qualify you for "extra
help" with your Medicare Part D costs.
MaineCare
MaineCare can pay your Medicare premium,
deductible and coinsurance, as well
as other important health care costs.
Individuals and couples may qualify
if their income is below the guidelines
listed to the right and certain assets
do not exceed the limit. Even at
higher income levels, certain people
may still qualify. Your house and
surrounding lot and car, for instance,
are not counted as assets. (See
list of assets not counted).
A call to the HelpLine at 1-800-965-7476
can help you determine if you qualify.

What
about estate recovery?
Upon your death, the state does NOT have the
right to recover the cost of assistance through
the Quimby or Slimby/QI-1 programs from your
estate. But if you are enrolled in MaineCare
directly, the state CAN try to recover costs
if you are over 55 and have no surviving spouse
and/or dependant child.
