Mental Health & Substance Abuse

MaineCare covers many mental health and substance abuse treatment services for children, pregnant women, parents, disabled or elderly adults or other adults.

If you can't get MaineCare, but you need affordable mental health or substance abuse treatment services, there are other programs that could help.

  • The Maine Office of Substance Abuse keeps an online searchable list of resources, including many sliding-scale options based on income.

  • NAMI Maine offers a toll-free hotline for people to call for mental health resources, including sliding-scale options based on income. 1-800-464-5767

  • Prescription Drug Programs can be helpful in lowering the cost of certain medications.

  • DirigoChoice health insurance includes mental health and substance abuse treatment coverage.

  • Private Insurance, is another option if you can afford it. Not all private insurance is the same - so be careful to ask questions about the services you need covered.
