Consumers for Affordable Health Care Announces Interim Director; Begins Search for Next Executive Director

The Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) Board of Directors has appointed Julia Underwood to serve as Interim Executive Director, effective November 4, 2017. Underwood, who is currently Associate Director of CAHC, will oversee the affairs of CAHC during the interim period while the Board of Directors searches for a permanent Executive Director after Emily Brostek, Executive Director since 2014, steps down on November 3 to pursue other professional interests.

“The Board is pleased to appoint an Interim Executive Director who knows CAHC so well,” said Kolawoke Bankole, Chair of the CAHC Board of Directors. “As Associate Director, Julia is ideally situated to manage CAHC’s operations during this transition, and maintain the culture of success and expertise that CAHC is well known for.”

Underwood joined CAHC in 2016 with extensive experience in public service and non-profit work. For ten years she managed operations and production at Opera Maine (formerly PORTopera), Maine’s only professional opera company. She also served as Co-Director of Maine Law & Civics Education at the University of Maine School of Law from 1996-2006.

“I look forward to supporting the Board as they search for a new Executive Director and ensuring a smooth leadership transition at CAHC,” said Underwood. “CAHC’s mission – to advocate for Maine people to be heard, respected, and well-served in a health system that provides coverage, access and quality, affordable care to all – is critical at this time, and I am committed to supporting the organization as we find the right leader to advance our mission.”

The CAHC board has begun the search for its next executive director. Applications for the position of Executive Director will be accepted until November 15, 2017. A job description is available on the CAHC website,
