plan was passed by both the Maine House and Senate
on June 13, 2003. Maine now has a plan for Universal
Health Care!

Great
News!! Dirigo Health plan was unanimously
supported (with amendments) by both democrats
and republicans in the Joint Select Committee
on Health Care Reform.
The
next step is a vote in the Maine House of Representatives
and Maine Senate, which is expected to happen
tomorrow (Thursday, June 12). Since consumer voices
(emails and phone calls) have been so effective
in this giant step toward health care for all
Mainers, we really need people to call their legislators
today and early tomorrow to urge them to vote
in support of the bill.

Please call these
TOLL FREE numbers listed below, and leave a message
for your
town's legislators.
If you need the name of your town's Senator and
Representative, just go to the capwiz
site and enter your town, street, and zip code.

Sample
message:
"Hello, my name is _______, and I live in
the town of _________. This message is for (Senator/Representative)
_________. I am calling to urge you to support
the Governor's Dirigo Health plan (LD 1611) when
it reaches the floor of the (Senate/House of Representatives)
this week. Maine people need health care relief
now. Thank you."

Please email
the Committee
members hearing the bills (LDs 1611 &
1612). Let them know that Maine
people can't continue to wait for help. The time
for study and delay is over - now we need to act
on what we've learned. Ask them to please support
passing the Governor's plan this year!
3.
Media can convey a powerful
message. Please email a short letter to the editor
of your local paper! Generally,
letters to the editor should be about 250 words
long and include your full name, address, and
telephone number (for varification purposes only).
Anonomous letters will not be published. Click

and help support universal health care in Maine.
We are organizing a series of phone calls days
and evenings, to let people know who their legislators
are and how to contact them to show support for
the Dirigo Health plan. There will be a simple
script provided to volunteers. For more details,
