Health Reform Subsidy Calculator
The link below takes you to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Subsidy Calculator. Their tool illustrates premiums and subsidies that will be available through the health insurance exchange beginning in 2014. At that time, tax credits (subsidies) will be available for people under age 65 who purchase coverage on their own in a health insurance Exchange and are not covered through their employer, Medicare, or Medicaid.
The tool allows the user to examine the impact at different income levels, ages, family sizes (one or four), and regional costs. If you live in Maine, you should select “high” cost. While the tool cannot calculate every different situation, it can show examples of the subsidies available. Also note that the calculator does not apply to people with coverage available through an employer, where the firm is generally paying for a substantial portion of the insurance premium.
Enrollment in the exchange will begin in late 2013.
